the Michigan that michael moore forgot to show you

when people hear the word "michigan" they think detroit, auto industry, federal bailout, ceos who don't fly commercial, mayors who stext, ron artest punching fans, michael moore offering another fair, balanced report, and people who point to their hands when they want to show you where they live.

having lived there a while, i know a different michigan. a charming, genuine, oddity-filled michigan that introduced me to my wife, my best friends, and featherbowling.

maybe that's why i'm such a sucker for the current michigan tourism campaign. we were headed up there this past weekend to ski anyway, but when this radio commercial came on, i drove even faster. the copy may lay it on j. peterman-thick in places, but the michigan that tim allen's voice describes is one that rings really true.
