brand inappropriatism

one of my cohorts noticed this today: a peace sign sticker on the cover of a car's gas tank. if you buy the definition of a brand as "a collection of perceptions in the mind of the consumer," one can argue that peace is a brand (albeit one with a smaller market share than i wish). and in this case, the brand's communication seems clearly off-strategy.
