learnings from worms

it was raining last week, and the worms were out in force, scooting their way across the sidewalk on their way to, um, wherever worms go. i noticed one in particular because it was moving mighty slow. a closer look revealed half its body was a huge knot, making it difficult to drag itself along. naturally, it made me think of the advertising business - that is, i've long believed we marketing people tend to make things more difficult than they need to be. while the output of what we do is changing dramatically, what we actually do, at its heart, remains simple.
