practically authentic german experiences in lincoln square

as i mentioned a few days ago, i had been to lincoln square before, and hit some of the german mainstays like the Merz Apothocary and had even written about spending Oktoberfest at the DANK (Deutsch Amerikanischer National Kongress) haus. but working my way along the side streets really exposed just how "lil' Germany" the neighborhood is. for instance, note how many of the ads are in german.

a few of the stores even have signage in broken english. "Ich spreche kein Englisch." yeah, right.

some of the local corner bars will even accept euros. euros!

they've even recreated some german landmarks here, like churches...

and that gate thingie...

but before you get too impressed, keep in mind they're not actually to the scale of the original ones.
